Trisenox is the trade name for the generic Arsenic Trioxide, an active ingredientwhich is at a concentration of 1 mg/ml. Trisenox is administered by injection (IV) and comes under the classification ofVery toxic (T+). Used in the treatment of acute leukemia, Trisenox (Arsenic Trioxide) is made up of the chemical compound As2O3 and belongs to the category of antineoplastic agents.The concentrations present to adjust the pH aredilute hydrochloric acid and sodium hydroxide (1.2 mg/mL). Trisenox is available as a colorless, sterile and clear solution and contains arsenic trioxide (10mg) with no preservatives. Available in 10 mg/10 mL (1 mg/mL) ampules, the chemical formula of Arsenic Trioxide is As2O3. Administered as an IV, the dosage for Trisenox is 0.15 mg/kg every day till bone marrow remission and should not exceed 60 doses.

Necessary Precautions to adhere to while taking Trisenox (Arsenic Trioxide):
The doctor should be informed of the medical history of the patient and if there have been any disorders of the kidney and/or diabetes. If the patient is allergic or particularly arsenic reactive, it is necessary to inform the physician. If any reactions occur while under treatment with Arsenic trioxide, such as fast or irregular heartbeat, fainting or any change in heart rhythm it is imperative to get medical help. As QT prolongation may occur while taking Trisenox injections, the doctor must be told if the patient has any other medical condition/s. Hands should be washed often and well to prevent infection. Pregnant and lactating mothers should avoid Arsenic trioxide. Sharp instruments should be avoided to prevent risk of injury. It is important to stay away from people who have recently been exposed to polio or any other vaccination or inoculation.

Indicated for patients with APL or acute promyelocytic leukemia or who have had a relapse from anthracyclineand retinoid chemotherapy, Trisenox (Arsenic Trioxide) has also been used to treat chronic lymphocytic leukemia, multiple myeloma, chronic myeloid leukemia, Melocytic leukemia subtypes, chronic lymphocytic leukemia and malignant glioma.

According to doctor’s instructions the dosage should be 0.15 mg/kg IV given over 1-2 hours qDaytill bone marrow remission and should not go beyond 60 doses. There should be a waiting period of 3-6 weeks after which 0.15 mg/kg IV qDay x25 doses should be administered for 5 weeks.
